CLARA

In 1850. Robert, his wife Clara and their five children settle down in Dusseldorf where he is been accepted as a musical director. For the resourceful musician, who is considered more as one of the world’s greatest composers than a conductor, it turns out to be a bad decision. Nor is it a happy period for Clara, who is reduced to the role of a housewife instead of that of an acclaimed concert pianist performing throughout Europe to sold-out halls. That is, until she meets the young, brilliant Johannes Brahms. Clara and Johannes fall for one another. Robert, who is sick and suffering from severe depression, attempts to drown himself in the Rhine River. His life is saved and he commits himself to a sanatorium. The relationship between Brahms, who cares for the family financially, and Clara grows even more intense. When Robert dies two years later, all the obstacles seem to have disappeared for them. Clara, however, refuses to marry again. Robert’s shadow still weighs too heavily on her. But she will go on playing his and Johannes’ music in the world’s concert halls, expressing her feelings for him and for the moments of darkness they both experienced with Robert.

Tahun 1850 Robert dan istrinya Clara beserta kelima anak mereka pindah ke Duesseldorf. Di sini Robert baru saja diterima bekerja sebagai direktur musik. Bagi pemusik alami seperti Robert, yang lebih layak disebut komposer hebat dunia daripada seorang konduktor, keputusan menjadi salah. Sebaliknya itu adalah masa yang berbahagia bagi Clara karena di sini dia menjadi ibu rumah tangga biasa daripada seorang pianis yang harus tur ke seluruh Eropa. Sampai akhirnya dia berjumpa dengan seorang brilian bernama Johannes Brahms. Clara dan Johannes saling jatuh cinta. Robert yang akhirnya sakit dan menderita karena mengalami depresi yang berat, berupaya untuk menenggelamkan dirinya di sungai Rhine. Dia berhasil diselamatkan dan mau dirawat di tempat peristirahatan. Sementara itu hubungan antara Brahms, yang akhirnya menyokong keluarga ini secara financial, dan Clara semakin berkembang. Robert meninggal dua tahun kemudian. Meskipun kini sudah tidak ada lagi rintangan di antara keduanya Clara menolak untuk menikah kembali. Bayangan Robert masih berat menekannya. Tapi dia dan Johannes akan terus bermain music di konser kelas dunia, satu cara mengungkapkan perasaannya kepada Johannes and demi masa-masa kegelapan yang mereka alami bersama Robert.

This film is an anthology that brings together seven short films Tan created on a tight self-imposed schedule. Tan believes that the act of making the films was more important than their quality. This film reveals a striking, eclectic vision and broad range of styles, ranging from a straightforward documentary (Chicken) to satires of science-fiction epics (Dream 1, Dream 2 and Dream 3) as well as dramas focusing on a small cast of characters (Everyday, Everyday and The Need of Ritual) and more action-oriented stories (To Say Goodbye).

Film ini kompilasi tujuh film pendek karya Tan. Anna Kastelano is packing up the home that had belonged to her family on a Greek island and is considering putting it up for sale. However, in these familiar surroundings, she is revisited by memories of her own past and that of her Sephardic Jewish family. Anna has not yet got over the death of her husband Max. She spends the summer on the island, which has become her second home, trying to come to terms with her solitude.

For the first time, she opens the old family chest. Memories and ghosts rise up, with whom she cooks, dances and picks figs. She finds old telegrams relating to the fate of her grandmother Anna. She also discovers the diary of another Anna, her father's first love.But the present also makes itself felt. Anna meets Nikola and the feelings she experiences intermingle with her mourning and the moving discoveries about her family. Anna is searching for a path through the labyrinth of her history and ultimately decides to assume her place in it. Life goes on.


Anna Kastelano siap-siap menjual rumah keluarganya di kepulauan Yunani. Di sana dia teringat kembali memori masa lalu dan keluarga Yahudinya. Anna belum pulih dari kesedihan akibat kematian suaminya Max. Dia melewatkan musim panasnya di pulau yang sudah menjadi rumah keduanya dan coba  memaklumi kesepiannya.

Untuk pertama kali dia membuka lemari tua keluarganya. Kenangan dan hantu-hantu bermunculan saat dia memasak, menari, memungut daun ara. Dia menemukan telegram yang berkait nasib neneknya, diare dari seseorang bernama Anna, dan cinta pertama ayahnya.

Segalanya baru terasa sekarang. Anna bertemu Nikola. Perasaannya campur aduk dengan kesedihan dan penemuan-penemuannya tentang keluarganya. Anna mencari jalan kecil melalui labirin sejarah dan akhirnya memutuskan menerimanya. Hidup toh terus berjalan.

Xenia (14 years-old) is different from other girls. She lives close to a big city in a time that is the near future. All people are compulsorily happy and society is in perfect order. Because it was thought to have too many links with trouble and misfortune, the past has been declared taboo.
Her brother Arnout is the only person Xenia feels attached to. With him, Xenia shares vague memories of different times, when their grandmother was still alive. Every morning Xenia tells him her dreams. Nearly all of her dreams are about quests that never reach a goal. Xenia is a shy girl who doesn’t feel at home in the over-regulated society she lives in. Searching for a place of her own, she discovers an island on which time does not seem to exist. There, she finds the key to her future.

Xenia, 14 tahun, seorang gadis yang unik. Dia tinggal dekat kota besar dalam satu waktu, yaitu masa depan. Orang-orang di sana diwajibkan bahagia dan semua masyarakat tertib. Karena memiliki terlalu banyak kaitan dengan masalah dan ketidakberuntungan, masa lalu dianggap sebagai tabu.

As the painter tries hard to perfect the portraits, the intense interaction between artist and subjects brings forth the deep psychological state of the family. This powerful story of the tragic loss of a loved one becomes a catalyst for each member of the family to rediscover themselves and redefine their relationships.

Seorang ibu yang sedang berduka meminta kepada seorang pelukis untuk menggambar anak perempuan dan anak laki-lakinya yang berusia 19 tahun dan baru saja meninggal karena kecelakaan yang tragis. Sementara si pelukis berusaha membuat hasil lukisannya sempurna, interaksi yang mendalam antara si pelukis dan subjek fotonya membawa kesan psikologis yang mendalam terhadap keluarga. Cats was not made first and foremost as a contribution to Korean film culture, so it’s a big bonus that it’s as likeably cinematic as it is. It comes from the feminist group Unni-Network, and is designed to air some of the main issues--sexual, marital, psychological and related to questions of fertility--which will be of interest to young Korean women. It crosscuts between three protagonists whose lives intersect only briefly: the 28-year-old Sheera, who makes and sells costume jewelry by day, works in a bar in the evenings and has no intention of getting married; Simjang, who despairs of finding a job and begins to doubt her girlfriend Heopa’s fidelity; and a woman dentist who wants to get pregnant before it’s too late but can’t find a viable sperm-donor. Thanks to writer-director Kim Ji-Hyun’s skills and credibly natural performances from the entire cast, the result is perhaps the most refreshingly frank and uncomplicated account of the complications of women’s lives since Go Fish.

Cats bukanlah film pertama dan terpenting bagi budaya film Korea. Film ini datang dari kelompok feminis Unni-Network dan didisain untuk menyiarkan isu-isu utama seperti seks, perkawinan, psikologis dan yang terkait pertanyaan-pertanyaan kesuburan yang akan diminati perempuan muda Korea. Ini kisah tiga tokoh: Sheera, 28 tahun, yang membuat dan menjual barang perhiasan setiap hari, bekerja di bar pada malam hari dan tidak berniat menikah; Simjang, putus asa mencari pekerjaan dan mulai ragu akan kesetiaan pacar perempuannya Heopa; dan seorang dokter gigi perempuan yang ingin hamil sebelum terlambat tetapi tidak menemukan donor sperma yang bagus. Terima kasih untuk keterampilan penulis sekaligus sutradara Kim Ji-Hyun dan penampilan alami dari keseluruhan film. Hasilnya sangat mencerahkan dan catatan yang tidak rumit tentang kerumitan hidup perempuan setelah filmnya Go Fish.

Three short films that are linked together by the investigative tone of the maker. She investigates for instance how to introduce a dead mother in the film as if it's normal.

A trilogy in which various boundaries are investigated. Boundaries in relationships and boundaries in film making. Can the encounter with the love of your dreams be visualised literally? How do you speak to your mother after her death? How do you ensure that film making becomes part of real life? And so all questions about love, death and reality also involve the language of film here. The language that can tell the story of love again and again.
Tiga film pendek dirangkai bersama oleh nada investigatif sang pembuat. Dia menginvestigasi, sebagai contoh, bagaimana memperkenalkan ibu yang telah meninggal sebagai sesuatu yang normal. A story about a careless mother and her lonely and insecure daughter. Faye, an 18-year-old girl, is always on the edge because of her mother's boyfriends. Her mother runs a beauty shop. They are close to each other and similar in appearance. But to Faye, her carefree mother is like a child who she always has to look after. Faye is furious when she learns that her mother is pregnant. She cannot do anything but try to bear her sadness as she longs to escape from her life.

Bercerita tentang ibu yang ceroboh dan anak perempuannya yang merasa tidak aman. Faye, gadis 18 tahun, selalu merasa tersisihkan karena pacar-pacar ibunya. Ibunya mempunyai toko kecantikan. Mereka sangat dekat dan mirip satu dengan yang lain. Bagi Faye, ibunya seperti anak kecil yang harus dijaga. Dia sangat marah ketika pada satu ketika ibunya hamil. In 1965, Patsy Takemoto Mink became the first woman of color in the United States Congress. Seven years later, she ran for the US presidency and was the driving force behind Title IX, the landmark legislation that transformed women’s opportunities in higher education and athletics. Mink was an Asian-American woman who fought for racism and sexism while redefining US politics. Her tumultuous, often lonely political journey reveals what can be at stake for female politicians that defy expectations, push limits and adhere to their principles.

This latest documentary made by internationally acclaimed director Kim Longinotto follows the outspoken, multiracial cadre of Thuli, Mildred, Sdudla, Eureka and Jackie, as they wage daily battles against systemic apathy, corruption and greed to help the most vulnerable and disenfranchised of their communities. Once again Longinotto has managed to bring us an intimate portrait of change from Africa, this time from post-apartheid South Africa, a nation being transformed with hope and energy into a new democracy.

This worldwide documentary takes viewers on a vibrant tour of urban culture and musical movement, from hip hop’s birthplace in the Bronx, to grime on London’s Eastside, to Philly, Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, and L.A., and points in between. This is a documentary of the post-World War II history of Japanese women who fought to establish their human rights in Japan. Article 24 of the Japanese Constitution, which sets out the equality of women and men, has provided the strongest base in support of the long and winding road over which Japanese women have travelled. Beate Sirota Gordon, though only 22 years old when she drafted this article of historical importance, was the only one among the drafting team who was aware of the pain of Japanese women, of how limited were their rights and how inferior were those rights to those of men.

Ini adalah film dokumenter paska Perang Dunia II tentang sejarah perempuan di Jepang yang berjuang untuk menetapkan hak-hak asasi mereka. Pasal 24 dari Undang-Undang Jepang yang mengatur kesamaan laki-laki dan perempuan, menjadi modal kuat untuk mendukung perjalanan panjang perempuan Jepang ini. Beate Sirota Gordon, berusia 22 tahun ketika menulis konsep pasal yang bersejarah ini, adalah satu-satunya yang sadar betul luka perempuan Jepang, betapa terbatas dan rendahnya hak-hak mereka terhadap hak-hak untuk laki-laki.

Filmed over three years during the most historic and pivotal time in Nepal’s modern history, The Sari Soldiers is an extraordinary story of six women’s courageous efforts to shape Nepal’s future in the midst of an escalating civil war against Maoist insurgents, and the King’s crackdown on civil liberties.

The Sari Soldiers follows Devi, a mother of a 15-year-old girl who witnesses her niece being tortured and murdered by the Royal Nepal Army, and five other brave women: Maoist Commander Kranti; Royal Nepal Army Officer Rajani; Krishna, a monarchist from a rural community who leads a rebellion against the Maoists; Mandira, a human rights lawyer; and Ram Kumari, a young student activist shaping the protests to reclaim democracy. The Sari Soldiers delves into the extraordinary journey of these women on opposing sides of the conflict and the democratic revolution reshaping their country’s future.

Film ini dibuat selama tiga tahun pada masa paling bersejarah dan menentukan di Nepal modern. Film tentang kisah luar biasa dari enam perempuan yang berani melakukan usaha-usaha untuk membentuk masa depan Nepal kembali di tengah-tengah perang sipil melawan pemberontak Mao dan tindakan keras Kerajaan.

Keenam perempuan berani itu adalah Devi, seorang ibu dari gadis 15 tahun yang bersaksi tentang keponakan perempuannya yang disiksa dan dibunuh tentara Nepal (Royal Nepal Army). Lima perempuan lain adalah Kranti, komandan pasukan Mao (Maoist Commander); Rajani, pegawai Royal Nepal Army; Krishna, anggota kerajaan dari desa yang memimpin pemberontakan melawan tentara Mao; Mandira, seorang pengacara hak-hak asasi manusia; dan Ram Kumari, seorang aktivis mahasiswi yang melakukan protes untuk berdemokrasi. The film ‘Far from Family’ is about ‘Indo-Europeans’ who emigrated to The Netherlands after the Independence of Indonesia.  The film, situated in 1986, is about an extended Indo-European family in Holland. Central in the film are the old grandmother Em and her granddaughter Barbie who had emigrated to the United Stated with her father and who returned to the Netherlands to visit her grandmother after the death of her father and stepmother.
Film ‘Far from Family’ bercerita tentang keluarga Indo-Eropa yang beremigrasi ke Belanda setelah kemerdekaan Indonesia. Film ini, bersetting tahun 1986, adalah tentang keluarga besar Indo-Eropa di Belanda. Cerita film ini berfokus pada nenek Em dan cucunya, Barbie yang telah beremigrasi ke Amerika Serikat dengan ayahnya dan yang kembali ke Belanda untuk menengok neneknya setelah kematian ayah dan ibu tirinya.
